The Skate Sanctuary - serving a thriving skate community in Leeds
Welcome to The Skate Sanctuary (formerly Roller Girl Gang) — a Leeds‑based social enterprise dedicated to confidence, connection, and community through roller skating. We’ve spent years creating inclusive spaces where adults can rediscover joy, build self-belief, and feel genuinely supported. Everything we offer grows from the values we share with the incredible community around us. And now, in our new permanent home, we’re expanding that sense of belonging even further with classes and sessions for families and children — a space where all ages can roll, learn, and grow together. When you show up aligned with our values — kindness, courage, curiosity, and care — you’re already part of the family. We’re here with thoughtful coaching, high‑quality sessions, and equipment you can trust, so your skating journey feels empowering from the very first roll

Learn to Roller skate for ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS
Level 1 is a skate level we created for folks who felt that 'putting on a pair of roller skates and off you go' was not enough support. In this video, I'm going to talk you through the complete Level 1 skills (please give yourself more time) and how your nervous system can (and will) fight you in the battle for control. Without this, lots of people give up roller skating very quickly, due to the high risk of injury, fear and pain of falling and embarrassment. What is covered in this mini course? *How to put your pads on *How to stand up *How to fall safely *How to learn to balance *How to move forward *Developing your push and glide (aka natural skating) look how much we've done already! *Developing control using lemons *Stopping *How to skate backwards *Introduction to transitions *Turning a corner If you found this video helpful, please subscribe to my channel or even better, support my small business. If you buy Rookie Roller Skates or Moxi Beach Bunny skates from us, you will get a free Foundation Accelerator course, worth £39.99 - which includes Levels 1 & 2 skills and troubleshooting. https://www.theskatesanctuary.co.uk/product-page/rookie-artistic-roller-skates Thanks for watching and enjoy your skate journey

Use this pattern to practise TRANSITIONS on both sides (roller skaters over 40)
This method of creating a pattern is a great way to gamify your roller skate drills. Perhaps you already know the 'Open Book Transition' this is a great visual if you are a fairly confident skater - for those who lack confidence, try peeling the pages from the top, so your shoulder is in the right position BEFORE you step. There are a couple of progression points that create a horseshoe shape, and before you know it, you'll be confidently turning on both sides!
