Earlier in the season, we sent out some awesome Huck wheels to Lucy Brighton, a park skater over in East Lincolnshire to hear what her thoughts were of these wonderfully-whimsical wheels! Follow Lucy on Instagram @theskatejournal

We sent out the Cheshire Cat design from the Alice in Wonderland range, which are the 55mm 100a durometer wheel, made from high quality urethane with a conical shape—perfect for your more advanced skate park tricks.
From the Huck range, there are other wheels available in a different durometer, shape and size to suit the needs of different skaters, depending on your preferences.

According to Huck...
The classic shape is lightweight, therefore providing the opportunity for quicker switch-ups. It’s versatile with reduced friction for longer slides. The conical shape offers a wider riding surface, offering more stability and increased lock-ins—therefore the opportunity for longer grinds—and a faster roll… WHEEEEEE!
Huck Skate Supply products have been designed by Nick the Medic, a seasoned park skater, and manufactured by Sure Grip USA.

Hey Lucy! 👋🏼
So, with that in mind, let’s hear directly from Lucy on how she has found the Huck 101a wheels since adding them to her setup—from her initial expectation, to how they work for her in practice out at the park and how they stack up against her usual roll.
Unboxing and initial thoughts
“I’m pretty excited to give these a go. I’m a bit of a creature of habit when it comes to my park skate setup. When I like something and something is good, I don’t really like to change it all that much but I really have been pretty curious you might say about this particular product, so I’m really looking forward to giving them a go. I’m already thinking about some spots where I do want to try these on as they are a bit bigger than the wheels I’m using currently. In terms of the shape, they do market as being good for ‘locking-on’ to the coping, so for somebody who is very much a transition and a bowl skater, I’m really looking forward to giving them a go. I will also be taking them to the street sections of the skatepark as well, just to see how they compare and see how I find them... but overall, they look really cute and I can’t wait to show you what they look like on my skates.”

Ready to go!
“The wheels are now fitted to my skates, ready to go and have a roll! I am really stoked with the overall aesthetic and how the wheels look on my skates. The decal is REALLY cute. One thing I noticed when I was looking at the wheels in closer detail are these grooves on the riding surface. I’ve never had a fresh set of wheels that have those grooves on there, so I’m wondering how that's going to affect or change my experience, but I’m looking forward to giving them a roll and seeing how they ride!"
Wooden outdoor mini-ramp
“I’ve been to this absolutely beautiful spot a couple of times now. It’s a wooden mini-ramp. It’s about 4ft high, quite a mellow transition, really nice to ride. The first session… absolute write-off with these wheels! I just felt like I was slipping and sliding out of everything, just in the transition. I called the session off and that’s really something coming from me—I don’t usually get like that, but I gave myself some grace and I said that I’ll be back and have another go and... here I am. Definitely more chill, definitely not slipping out the way I was the other day. I would say I’m starting to see some of the benefits of that harder wheel—I’m doing grinds, but I am noticing I’m not locking-in on every single trick that I would have been able to do on my other wheels. So, I’m not being to hard on myself. I’m just feeling how they feel and I’m still getting used to them and, that’s okay!”

Grey metal mini ramp
“This surface is a little bit slippy for these wheels!!”

Concrete skate park
"It feels really fast—I think the big wheels are really good for this type of place. It’s a really big bowl, there’s lots of flat area and I think it helps me keep a lot of speed. I can’t wait to bring these back here again!" (The Trin Sport’s Centre, Cleethorpes).

Round-up and final thoughts 1 month in
"I’ve been using the Skate Supply wheels for a little over a month now. I’ve taken them to every skatepark session that I’ve been on. I’ve really thrown myself in and embraced the opportunity to try these wheels and see how I find them. A few places that I’ve really enjoyed taking these to are the big bowls! I’ve been to places where there’s concrete, where there’s wood and I’ve really enjoyed the feel of riding a bowl with these wheels. In terms of grinds, soul grinds, I don’t get wheel bind in these so I’m finding I’m able to get really long soul grinds, because of the hardness of the wheel—that nice 101a has really helped not get that dreaded wheel bind when I’m trying to grind. Some of my, maybe, least favourite places that I’ve been with these wheels are where there are smaller transitions. I think because I’m used to skating smaller wheels, to then go to something that’s a little bit bigger, it’s maybe not been as enjoyable for me but, I’m still gonna keep riding them, I’m still gonna keep going to all the different places I’ve been so far and I’m just gonna embrace enjoying these wheels!"
