We’re thrilled to announce that The Skate Sanctuary has been awarded over £9000 of funding from National Lottery players through Sport England to launch Wheels of Connection, a new programme delivering weekly roller skating sessions for neurodivergent skaters and minority gender skaters. This grant helps us keep sessions heavily subsidised so as many people as possible can join.

What’s happening
Queer sessions: PRISM weekly, welcoming space for adult minority gender and LGBTQ+ participants and allies.
Sensory-friendly sessions: low-stimulation sessions designed for neurodivergent people and those with sensory processing needs. This session is suitable for skaters aged 14+. Carers welcome to attend free.
When and where: sessions run at our studio in Leeds; times and booking details are on our website.
Why this matters Roller skating is joyful, accessible exercise that builds fitness, balance, and confidence. Wheels of Connection creates safe, inclusive spaces where people can be active without fear of judgement or sensory overwhelm. We appreciate Sport England recognising the need for this.
How to sign up: visit our website to reserve a place. Spaces are limited and subsidised — priority given to our target groups.
Stay involved: we’ll run regular feedback sessions so participants shape the programme.
“We founded The Skate Sanctuary to make movement joyful and accessible. This Sport England award means we can reach people who’ve been excluded from mainstream fitness and build lasting community through skating.”
Please help us spread the word about these sessions by sharing with anyone who may be interested in learning to roller skate.
