Outdoor Confidence Workshop 1: First Steps Outside (Level 2+) - Kit Special

A special edition of workshop 1 of our Outdoor Confidence course. This is a perfect session if you have never skated outside or need advice on outdoor skate gear.

In addition to the usual First Steps Outside workshop, we'll talk about ensuring you have the right equipment for skating outside. The goal isn't to push you to buy, but to reassure you about the equipment you have (if appropriate) or point out any safety concerns.

We will give advice about outdoor wheels, and whether you really need them (probably not - depending on the type of skating you'll be doing).

We'll also cover Pads and helmets and talk about how to feel safer skating outside.

🛼 STREET CONFIDENCE: 3-Week Outdoor Skating Journey 🌳

Outdoor skating is truly wonderful and freeing! The feeling of the wind in your face and the sun on your back as you cruise down the street is unmatched.

Of course, you also need to be very prepared. Mastering stops, controlling your speed, dealing with obstacles, street furniture, pedestrians, carrying a bag and more. We will cover everything you need to unlock the world of outdoor skating - quickly.

Detailed Workshop Breakdown:

Please note that these workshops will be repeated. It is unlikely you will be able to confidently book on 3 in a row. Instead we suggest you work on the Level you are at, and focus on feeling more confident at that level, by mastering the skills and techniques we show. Return for the next level when you're ready.

Workshop 1: First Steps Outside (Level 2+)

Master the fundamentals of outdoor skating in a controlled environment. We'll cover surface reading, outdoor stopping techniques, and essential safety skills that'll set you up for success. Get comfortable with different terrain and learn how to handle various outdoor surfaces.

Workshop 2: Exploring New Horizons (Level 3+)

Time to level up! We'll venture into different outdoor spaces, teaching you how to navigate obstacles, manage varying surfaces, and build your confidence in new environments. Practice group skating etiquette and learn to handle unexpected situations with ease.

Workshop 3: Conquering the Hills (Level 3+)

Face your fears and master elevation changes! Learn uphill and downhill techniques, advanced stopping methods, and speed control. By the end of this session, you'll have the skills and confidence to tackle most urban terrain.

Important Info:

- Suitable for skaters comfortable with basic indoor skating

- All safety gear required (helmet, wrist guards, knee and elbow pads)

- Weather dependent - alternative dates will be provided if needed

- Limited spots available to ensure quality instruction

- Meeting points will be at The Skate Sanctuary, unless otherwise stated. Check the description, particularly for Level 4.

Are hire skates available?

No, Our hire skates are only available for Indoor sessions.

I have a Skate Pass monthly membership, do I still need to book?

Yes, please still book your spot. Please remember that if you are not able to make it, our cancellation policy does still apply.

Can I bring my own refreshments?

We appreciate if you support us by purchasing our refreshments, but understand if we do not provide something like that meets your dietary preference or need. Please remember not to eat or drink while skating.

I wear inline skates, can I come?

Yup. We welcome all wheely-booted folks.

 I don't identify as a girl, can I come?

Absolutely!  The Skate Sanctuary was founded and is run by women, with the support of our fantastic volunteer team, to provide better access to roller skating for all genders and identities, especially marginalised folks.
