Once booked, we will work together to find a suitable outdoor location in the Bodmin / North Cornwall area. (e.g. basketball court near Bodmin Skate park PL31 1DS)

Mel will be in touch to confirm the session details - skaters, focus of session and location - at least one week in advance.

Who is Mel?

She is the founder of The Skate Sanctuary, passionate roller skater and advocate for adult beginner roller skaters, especially folks aged 45+. Mel says "I wanted to create a space that normalises the feelings of learning something new as an adult. Many of us want to try new things, and because we are not immediately 'good' we quickly give up. Roller skating can teach us so much about ourselves, including self-trust and self-compassion, as well as offering opportunities to build our confidence and make new friends. This is an activity where being good doesn't matter. We simply want to feel at peace within our own bodies and move into mid-life being strong and healthy. I also want to create a new idea of ageing from the one my generation has been presented with. Women over 40 become invisible in society, whereas I believe we have our best years still to come. Self care doesn't have to look like single-use skincare products. Instead, reclaim joy and take up more space without apology. We cannot be good at something quickly - building experience takes time. Let's normalise the journey."

What will you learn?

Mel will work with you or your group to work out your next steps to achieve the goals you want in roller skating. Learning to roller skate takes a long time - your body and nervous system need to be comfortable first. Mel will support you with tried and tested strategies to support this.

Terms and Conditions of Booking:

• Sessions are 60 minutes in duration

• All sessions will be held at an outdoor location to be decided.

Scheduling and Cancellations

1. Booking Sessions

All sessions must be booked and paid for in advance.

2. If you cancel the session

As Mel is visiting Cornwall, sessions are non-transferable and non-refundable.

3. Instructor Cancellations

In case of instructor non-attendance / emergency, you will be informed at the earliest opportunity and refunded the cost of the session in full. We are unable to refund any additional costs you may have incurred.

4. Your Responsibilities

• Arrive on time and ready to skate

• Wear appropriate safety gear (helmet, wrist guards, knee pads, elbow pads) this is at

your discretion as all skaters must complete a waiver of liability.

• Inform Mel of any relevant medical conditions or injuries

5. Instructor Responsibilities

   • Arrive on time and ready to skate

   • Ensure the area for the session is safe to roller skate.

   • Help you / your group understand the blocks that are preventing you from making progress and leave you with a clear map to continue your roller skate journey.
