Level 3 Skate Skills Workshop 17+

Pre-requisite skills

To join our Level 3 classes, we suggest you can:

• Confidently control your speed with lemons

• Skate forwards and starting to skate backwards

• Able to balance on one foot

• Able to fall safely

What will we learn in this session?

In this class we will focus on jumping and spinning. Our jumping will use practical applications that we may encounter as recreational skaters, so we are prepared to navigate any obstacle! We will end the class with a short introduction to spinning or an opportunity to continue to practise if this is not your first time spinning.

We will focus on great technique and get out of our comfort zone to test ourselves.

By pushing beyond what we believe we are capable of within a safe environment and with the assistance of an experienced coach, we can ensure you have the correct technique to minimise risk of injury. Our coaches will never suggest you just 'go for it' if they do not believe you have the required skills.

Our coaches are experienced coaches and skaters - there to support and develop you. During the individual practise parts of the session, we will offer feedback and suggestions for improvement.

You are welcome to put skates on in the hallway so that we can start our warm up promptly. If you arrive late to the session, please ensure you check in with a member of our team and do your best to catch up.

Please expect these skills to take many weeks or months to develop, depending on your previous experience, confidence and amount of practise.

General things to remember

• The ability level for this class is very very wide,  we will help you identify your next steps for progression.

• Emphasis in this class is on good technique

• Growth mindset in our skaters is encouraged - this class is designed to push you out of your comfort zone, however all exercises are optional.

• Many of these skills will likely take months or years to perform confidently on a range of surfaces and from high speed - this class gives you the opportunity to practise with coaching support.

• While we would love you to take part in the whole session, our approach is person-centered. That means you do what feels safe for you.

What size hire skates do I need?

We recommend you ask for your regular shoe size.  If you try skates on and they're not right for you, we are happy to swap them. Our skate hire is available in full sizes only, from UK 3 - UK 15. You no longer need to book a specific ticket to tell us what size you require.

I have a Skate Pass monthly membership, do I still need to book?

Yes, please still book your spot. Please remember that if you are not able to make it, our cancellation policy does still apply.

Can I bring my own refreshments?

Yes of course.  Although please make sure you are not eating and drinking while you skate, that includes chewing gum.

I wear inline skates, can I come?

Yup. We welcome all wheely-booted folks.

 I don't identify as a girl, can I come?

Absolutely!  The Skate Sanctuary was founded and is run by women, with the support of our fantastic volunteer team, to provide better access to roller skating for all genders and identities, especially marginalised folks.
