About the event
Suitable for complete beginners, returning skaters or those with limited experience.
Absolutely no previous roller skate experience is needed to attend this class. We warmly welcome those who are starting their roller skate journey.
Numbers are limited to ensure we can keep an optimum student to Skate Coach ratio.
Please note: The coaching in this class will end up to 10 minutes before the session end to allow for the removal of skates and protection within the session time.
What will we learn?
We will have a separate group and instructor to look after our newest roller skaters who have absolutely no prior experience. Otherwise our instructor team will assess your current skate level and support you with developing your skills.
Each week we will cover different skills designed to build your confidence in all areas, including:
getting started
falling safely
starting
stopping
how to skate backwards
and a whole lot more!
Remember: Roller skate skills can take months to develop, depending on the skill you want to learn. We are not able to include all skills every week - skaters attend these sessions until they feel confident to progress to our skills workshops. If you're not sure, please speak to a member of the coach team at class.
Please note that we will not cover all skills every week - the above skills will be covered each month. We expect it to take several months for these skills to become part of your muscle memory.

What size hire skates do I need?
Skate hire available for a small additional fee. We recommend you ask for your regular shoe size. If you try skates on and they're not right for you, we are happy to swap them. Our skate hire is available in full sizes only, from UK 3 - UK 15. You no longer need to book a specific ticket to tell us what size you require.
I have a Skate Pass, do I still need to book?
Yes, please still book your spot for this class and have your digital Skate Pass ready to show at check-in. Please remember that if you are not able to make it, our cancellation policy does still apply.
Can I bring my own refreshments?
Yes of course. We want to keep this skate space alcohol free, so ask you do not bring alcohol to consume on the premises, including the car park. If you bring your own water bottle, we are able to refill this for you for free. We also have a small selection of soft drinks for sale. Should you spill your drink, please let a marshall know straight away. Please make sure you are not eating and drinking while you skate, that includes chewing gum.
I wear inline skates, can I come?
Yup. We welcome all wheely-booted folks.
I don't identify as a girl, can I come?
Absolutely! The Skate Sanctuary was founded and is run by women, with the support of our fantastic volunteer team, to provide better access to roller skating for all genders and identities, especially marginalised folks.
Can I collect my shop order?
You absolutely can, providing you have made the order with sufficient time for the team to plan this. You can contact the shop directly on +44 7479 430404 .
