About the event
Designed to introduce the roller dance skills and techniques we have developed since 2015 to skaters with limited experience or wanting to challenge themselves, come to all the sessions to make the most progress.
All sessions will take place on Tuesday evenings: 8 - 9.15pm
March 3rd - Introduction to... Cross Step
March 17th - Introduction to... Downtown
March 24th - Introduction to... Hez & Zero
March 31st - Introduction to... C-Step
April 7th - Introduction to... Dribbles & Crazy legs
April 21st - Introduction to... Combos (& recap)

While no previous dance experience is necessary, you should be able to stand still, roll forwards and step from side to side on your roller skates. If you don't feel confident to join in on skates, you are welcome to wear your shoes or socks and join in with wheels when you feel ready.
Fundamental roller dance skills will allow you to fully develop and understand body position and how this can support you.
Class Structure:
We will start the class promptly at 8 pm with a warm up on roller skates, to help condition your muscles ready for roller dance.
The session will develop with a demonstration of the focussed movement, and then a breakdown of the movement.
We encourage you to join in at a speed that feels right for you. We recognise that roller dance is an even more challenging form of roller skating, as the balance points are very precise.
While you will have an understanding of the core movement, it will take a lot of practise before it becomes smooth and flowing. If this is your first experience of roller dance, we do not expect you to leave with fluency of movement.
We will usually start the class with studio lights on and end with disco lights on.
Why do we love roller dance so much?
It fosters a sense of belonging when folks are able to dance together. Roller dance is incredibly powerful and we have had the privilege of being in spaces where skaters don't speak the same language, but are able to join in with the same steps in dance.
It supports fantastic footwork and technique that will support all other forms of roller skating. Especially balance.
It doesn't require a lot of room, so you can practise in a smaller space - like The Skate Sanctuary!
It's great fun.
It's a fabulous warm up
You will become a more confident skater and learn to be more patient with yourself.
Skate Hire
Skate hire is available from the front desk for a small additional fee - you can pay by cash or card
